چکیده

The Oligocene-Recent Red Sea rift is one of the preeminent examples lithospheric rupture in recent geological past, forming basis for many models how continental breakup occurs and progresses to formation new oceanic crust. Utilisation low-temperature thermochronology Rift since 1980s has been key constraining its spatio-temporal evolution, providing constraints propagation strain geomorphological development margins where datable syn-tectonic strata and/or markers are absent. We review wealth published apatite fission track (U-Th-Sm)/He data from along Sea, affording insights into thermo-tectonic evolution Nubian Arabian margins. A regional interpolation protocol was employed synthesise time-temperature reconstructions generated mined burial histories produced vitrinite reflectance well data. These cooling-heating maps record a series pronounced episodes upper crustal thermal flux related Rift. Assimilation these history with paleogeographic magmatic provide perspectives on roles tectonism geodynamic activity their effects margin development.

Lake Afrera, a structural depression in the Northern Afar Rift (Red Sea)

The boundary between the African and Arabian plates in the Southern Red Sea region is displaced inland in the northern Afar rift, where it is marked by the Red Sea-parallel Erta Ale, Alaita, and Tat Ali volcanic ridges. The Erta Ale is offset by about 20 and 40 km from the two en echelon ridges to the south. The offset area is highly seismic and marked by a depression filled by lake Afrera, a s...
